Introducing our newest Partners-in-crime!
They heard about our innovative Lending Circles program, and immediately stepped up to the plate. These three community-based organizations approached us with a vision of offering Lending Circles to their respective communities. They recognized the importance and value of credit-building, peer lending, and social capital, and began working with us 2012 to make those visions a reality. Please extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the MAF family:
1) Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California; Los Angeles, CA
Formed in 1997, the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) was established on the idea that all people and communities have rights to a healthy, dignified quality of life. PWC’s mission is to provide immediate services and resources that help meet urgent needs of low to moderate income workers and their families in the short term, and to move them to act collectively to address their own needs and issues for long-term change.
2) Family Independence Initiative; San Francisco, CA and Boston, MA
The Family Independence Initiative (FII) is a national center for innovating new strength based approaches for economic and social mobility that put people in the driver’s seat of their own change. Over this last decade FII has demonstrated that investing in people’s strengths and initiative delivers more powerful, sustainable, and cost effective outcomes for low-income families. Our strength-based approach, as radical and as old as our democracy, is inspired by the historical successes of poor communities in the U.S.
3) Financial Guidance Center; Nevada
The Financial Guidance Center (FGC) is a non-profit agency that has been serving the residents of Nevada since 1972. FGC is a member of the United Way of Southern and Northern Nevada, a HUD approved housing counseling agency, a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation. FGC provides services statewide to residents of Nevada and Utah. FGC promotes economic security through financially responsible behavior to all consumers, regardless of the ability to pay.
