A Champion for Financial Inclusion: Meet Anne, Our Newest Board Member

We are thrilled to welcome Anne Stuhldreher, a seasoned champion for economic justice and financial inclusion, to our board of directors. Anne’s impressive career trajectory, spanning public service, journalism, philanthropy, and research, is a testament to her unwavering commitment to fighting injustice for communities at the margins.

A Passion Ignited

Anne’s passion for economic security was ignited early on, fueled by her experiences growing up in diverse communities and witnessing firsthand the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities. This passion led her to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy and an MBA, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to drive meaningful change.

“The size of your wallet should not determine your life trajectory,” Anne emphasizes. “There’s so much talent and so much potential in people that just goes unlocked, sometimes because of barriers, various barriers to opportunity, to financial mobility.”

A Career Dedicated to Empowerment

Over the years, Anne has worked tirelessly to develop and implement innovative policies and programs aimed at supporting low-income and immigrant families. Her work has spanned various sectors, from local government to national think tanks, and has focused on critical areas such as children’s savings accounts, banking access for the unbanked, local tax credits for working families, and fine and fee reform.

Anne’s connection to MAF dates back to our inception. She vividly recalls the early days when the Levi,Strauss Foundation provided seed funding to start MAF and envisioned creating an organization that would support Mission residents to build savings and assets. Since then, Anne has been a keen observer of our growth and impact, and she is excited to now contribute her expertise and passion as a new board member.

Joining Forces with MAF

Anne’s decision to join our board stems from her deep-rooted belief in our mission and her desire to be part of an organization that is making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families. She is particularly drawn to our focus on financial inclusion and our commitment to providing resources and opportunities to those traditionally excluded from the financial mainstream.

“I’ve always been really drawn to the mission of MAF,” Anne shares. “I’ve followed it from the beginning…There’s so many opportunities for the organization at this time, and it’s a really exciting time to be a part of MAF.”

A Multifaceted Champion

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Anne is a mother, an avid cyclist, and a food enthusiast. She cherishes the vibrant and diverse community of San Francisco, where she lives near Dolores Park. Her love for the city and its people further fuels her dedication to creating a more equitable and inclusive society.
“It’s a very gratifying place,” Anne says of San Francisco, “to work on public policy and…watch it spread.”

A Bright Future Together

We are incredibly fortunate to have Anne on our team. Her experience, insights, and passion will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to promote financial inclusion and create a brighter future for all.
