Building Financial Security Through Community Partnerships

Over the years, Mission Asset Fund (MAF) has partnered with 100 nonprofits to provide over $21 million in small-dollar loans to low-income individuals, helping them build their financial futures. Each client’s goals and circumstances are unique, and in response, we’ve developed 77 distinct loan products to support them on their financial journeys.

This is what meeting people where they are truly looks like—not only in their financial lives but also within their communities. Understanding the diverse needs of our clients, we expanded beyond credit-building loans to offer small business and citizenship loans, along with culturally relevant and timely financial coaching. These services empower individuals to take control of their financial well-being and create lasting economic opportunities for themselves and their families.

Scaling Impact Through Community Partnerships

Our ability to scale nationally is driven by our commitment to partnering with nonprofits that are deeply rooted in their communities. Through our partner network, we strengthen connections and gain valuable insights to serve low-income communities more effectively across the U.S. Using our infrastructure, partners can harness the best of finance and technology to support their communities in achieving financial security.

Since launching Lending Circles in 2008, we have continued to innovate and expand our programs. By 2010, we introduced small business and immigration loans, and in 2012, we formalized our partner network to extend our reach further. This strategic expansion allowed Lending Circles to quickly spread nationwide. By 2024, nearly 50% of the loans in our portfolio were facilitated through our partner network, demonstrating the power of community-driven financial solutions.

Community-Centered Financial Solutions

At MAF, we believe that community has always been the best support system for individuals facing financial challenges or pursuing new opportunities. Financial products and services should reflect this reality. By keeping our work community-centered, we have successfully provided over 21,000 people with relevant and timely loans that make a meaningful difference in their lives.

As we continue to grow and deepen our impact, we remain committed to leveraging the strength of community partnerships to create financial security for all. Because when communities thrive, individuals do too.
