Now more than ever, we stand in community

Dear friends,

As the news of the presidential election sets in, there is a saying in Spanish that comes to mind: la cultura, cura. It’s a simple idea that centers my mind on what’s important: our cultural values, traditions, and indigenous practices that have kept our communities grounded, centered, and resilient over many generations.

La cultura, cura is how we heal in relationship with each other, gain strength to keep moving forward, and weather storms together. We can’t survive alone. La cultura, cura is why we build community, surrounding ourselves with people we love and trust in times of crisis. Today is one of those days when the warm and loving embrace from family, friends, and community matters most.

While we don’t know if the new administration will follow through on their Project 2025 plans with mass deportations, we do know that without any restraint and all the political levers at their disposal, the future is uncertain and dangerous for the most vulnerable among us. Over 20 million people in the U.S. today live in mixed-status households, so many are anxiously worried and fearful to be separated from their loved ones.

The coming months and years will challenge us to do more for the people most impacted by the coming storms. At MAF, we are doing all we can to support immigrant communities in strengthening their legal status by providing clear information about their options and funding to remove financial barriers to their immigration applications.

We are ready to do more with MIJA, a new app we’ll soon release to inform clients about their immigration options, helping them navigate the complex U.S. system, and connecting them to the right resources to move forward. We’re also expanding MAF’s suite of products, including making more citizenship loans, to help families protect themselves and withstand whatever may come next.

Today and always, we stand in a community, strengthening our relationships with one another, for that is the only way to survive and thrive together.

Stand with us. Join us.
